30-day grace period for your rental

If you cannot pay your dorm rental after getting displaced due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has your back.

The government agency released a circular granting at least 30 days in grace period for residential and commercial rents from the lifting of the specific level of community quarantine:
  • Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ)
  • Modified ECQ
  • General Community Quarantine (GCQ)
  • Modified GCQ
According to DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, you have the option to pay your total balance for the community quarantine level in monthly installment for six (6) months.

All you need to do is write a promissory note or any letter saying you intend to pay the owner of the house or building in installment.

However, there is another arrangement for those that were allowed to resume operations during the community quarantine period.

Meanwhile, the DTI is also looking into the possibility of lifting the circular that sets limit in buying food and non-food products including alcohol and hand sanitizers.
